More Kenyans in rural areas applying for cheap power connection

Gas pipeline for trial operation this month

 The natural gas pipeline connecting offshore reserves south of the country to Dar es Salaam will be put into trial operation later this month.   The government said the commissioning of the pipeline would boost power generation and supply gas to factories and homes.   The 532 km (330 mile) pipeline and gas processing plants, financed by a 1.23 billion US dollar Chinese loan, were initially expected to be completed last year.... Kenya is building Africa’s biggest wind energy farm to generate a fifth of its power

Kenya set in motion the construction of Africa’s biggest wind power farm this week, near Laisamis, 550km north of Kenya’s capital Nairobi. Known as the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project, the wind farm site covers 40,000 acres (162km2), which will be powered by the ‘Turkana Corridorwind.’ It is a low-level jet stream originating from the Indian Ocean and blows all year round. A US$400m gas-fired plant boosts Africa's energy needs

Wind power plant in Meru, Kenya set to generate 400MW of power
