Tanzania’s construction industry is poised for sustained growth, with projections indicating the sector will reach a value of Sh40.44 trillion by 2030, reinforcing its position as one of the country’s fastest-growing economic drivers. This growth is underpinned by rising investor interest, continued government spending on infrastructure, and rapid urbanisation across key cities.
According to the report compiled by industry analysts, the market is expected to grow to approximately Sh29.26 trillion in 2026, reflecting a steady upward trajectory. The report further highlights that the sector will maintain an average annual growth rate of 6.7 percent between 2026 and 2030, signalling continued resilience despite global economic uncertainties.
This projected growth follows a robust performance between 2021 and 2025, during which the industry recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.1 percent. The expansion was largely driven by major infrastructure developments, including transport networks, energy projects, and urban housing initiatives, alongside increased participation from private investors.
Analysts attribute the positive outlook to Tanzania’s broader economic fundamentals. The country has maintained consistent GDP growth, with the construction sector playing a key role in economic output. Recent data shows that GDP contribution from construction has been steadily rising, reflecting the sector’s growing importance in national development.
Urbanisation remains a major catalyst, with increasing demand for residential, commercial, and industrial infrastructure in cities such as Dar es Salaam, Arusha, and Mwanza. Additionally, the government’s continued focus on infrastructure investment particularly in transport, water, and energy has created a favourable environment for both local and foreign investors.
Looking ahead, the industry is also expected to benefit from emerging trends such as green building practices and prefabricated construction technologies, which are gaining traction as developers seek cost-efficient and sustainable solutions. With strong fundamentals and a clear growth trajectory, Tanzania’s construction sector is set to remain a cornerstone of the country’s economic transformation over the coming decade.
