Posted on : Friday, 3rd October 2025

In an effort to strengthen its hold on the regional market it has controlled for fifty years, Isuzu East Africa plans to start building all of its models in Kenya by the end of this year.

Rita Kavashe, the managing director of the company, stated that the mu-X, a premium sports utility vehicle, will be put together in Kenya in accordance with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) goals.

At a ceremony commemorating the Golden Jubilee of car assembly in Kenya, Ms. Kavashe made the announcement."Our narrative is one of reinvention, resiliency, and trust. For 50 years, Isuzu automobiles have been a vital component of East Africa's development, helping farmers, transporting kids to school, powering enterprises, and fostering economies, she said."We are looking forward with optimism, certain that our future is bold and limitless, in addition to celebrating our golden past."The Isuzu brand, which has 15 models in its lineup, has controlled the Kenyan new car market for 13 years running, and in 2024, it will hold a market share of over 50 percent.

After the Japanese carmaker Isuzu Motors Ltd. purchased the majority stake (57.7 percent) from Detroit-based General Motors, the firm, which had previously been known as General Motors East Africa Ltd., changed its name to Isuzu East Africa, therefore strengthening its position in the regional market.

For fifty years, Isuzu has established a reputation for dependability, honesty, and durability in the transportation industry, according to Mr. Koji Nakamura, Executive Vice-President of International Sales Division of Isuzu Motors Ltd. Mr. Nakamura stated, "Isuzu Motors is still dedicated to fostering growth in Africa through multipathway vehicle technology and carbon-neutral solutions."

The company claims that in order to establish Kenya as a regional automotive hub, it will promote environmentally friendly, efficient automobiles and increase the capability for fully knocked-down assembly.
